Call for Action Update & Resources |
|
NEW Call for Action Toolkit
The Call for Action Toolkit is a one-stop shop on the REALTOR® Action Center website where you can find messaging templates and links to the federal Calls for Action. Just choose your state from the drop down and the toolkit will give you the tools to promote the CFA to your members. As we move forward, we will add successful strategies and best practices from your local and state campaigns so others can learn what works and incorporate those methods into their own CFA plans. If you have questions, please contact Melissa Horn at 202-383-1026. |
|
Timeline for G-fees Call for Action
Thank you ALL for diligently working on the current G-fee Call for Action. The House has extended the reauthorization and NAR has extended the CFA to at least November 20. Please keep on keeping on and push your members to take action. NAR will continue to send messages to non-action takers and will continue to post on social media. If you have questions, please contact Jim MacGregor at 202-383-1188 or Melissa Horn at 202-383-1026. |

Rental Restrictions White Paper
State and local governments are looking for ways to regulate a growing sharing economy, especially rental housing. Some of these regulations impose fees, registration requirements, or even special licensing. Short-term rentals may increase government coffers; however, that may impede housing affordability in the area. Robinson & Cole uses examples from NAR’s Land Use Initiative program to evaluate rental restriction trends across the country.

On the Go: Water Podcast
Benjamin Franklin once said, “When the well’s dry, we will know the worth of water.” Whether it’s a drop to drink or a deluge for irrigation, access to water is a major—and growing—real estate issue. Click to listen to the latest Realtor® Party On The Go podcast.

EPA Water Rule Blocked Nationwide By Sixth Circ.
Judges from the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals recently halted implementation nationwide of the EPA's Clean Water Plan, also known as the Waters of the U.S. regulation. This regulation would sweep in many more waters of the U.S., resulting in more onerous permitting requirements and more property rights violations. This regulatory stay, while important, is temporary, as the Court considers whether it has jurisdiction to hear other challenges to the regulation. NAR has opposed this rule from its inception and will continue to push for a legislative solution to determine which waters are considered to be under federal jurisdiction and which are not.

WATCH: HUD Secretary and Realtor.com® Chief Economist Discuss Millennials and the National Wealth Gap in Town Hall Event
Millennial decisions about homeownership will have significant impact on income inequality in the United States for generations to come, according to U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julián Castro and realtor.com® Chief Economist Jonathan Smoke who participated in a town hall before an online audience and graduate students at the George Washington University. Full video of the event, held on Oct. 26, is available online at realtor.com/townhall. Moderated by The Wall Street Journal’s Economics Correspondent Nick Timiraos, Secretary Castro and Smoke addressed the economic trends that have impacted the homeownership prospects for millennials—once predicted to become a “generation of renters”—and the challenges that remain. Secretary Castro and Smoke also answered questions submitted by Twitter and Facebook users. |

Presidential Candidates Address Affordable Housing at New Hampshire Housing Summit
The need for affordable housing is often absent as a discussion topic in presidential debates and typically does not play a major role in the candidates’ policy platforms. However, this campaign season, the J. Ronald Terwilliger Foundation for Housing America’s Families sought to raise housing’s profile by hosting the New Hampshire Housing Summit on October 16 and invited presidential candidates to address an audience comprised of representatives of national housing organizations and those involved in the New Hampshire affordable housing industry. To read more about the event and the candidate’s responses, click here. Ron Phipps, 2011 President of the National Association of REALTORS®, served on the Expanding Access to Credit panel at the event and penned an op-ed that appeared in the New Hampshire Business Review. |

NEW! Major Investor Lapel Pin Distribution Timeline
The NEW Major Investor Lapel Pin Distribution Timeline now can be found online. NAR RPAC Recognition—for both Individual and Corporate investments—begins when NAR receives 30% of the completed investment from the state and/or local association. The Individual recognition process is conducted over the course of 14 business days, while corporate recognition occurs over the course of 12 business days. For questions regarding the timeline, please contact Kanoa Naehu. |

Two NEW! RPAC State Awards |
|
Most Improved Overall Fundraising
This new recognition embodies the purpose of the recently passed RPAC Fundraising Goal Policies by rewarding fundraising success at all three levels of the association. Beginning with the 2015 Fundraising year, the top three state/territories in each size category—small, medium and large—will be recognized for largest percentage increase in total receipts (local, state and national) over the previous fundraising year. Receipts must be recorded in the PAC Management System to count toward this award.
Highest Percentage of National Fundraising Goal
Funds sent to NAR above and beyond the RPAC Fundraising Goal have always been used judiciously to advance the REALTOR® Party and support REALTOR® Champions. The RPAC Fundraising Trustees want to continue to recognize states that are able to send funds above and beyond their RPAC Fundraising Goal. Beginning this year the top three state/territories in each size category—small, medium and large—will be recognized for having highest percentage of their RPAC Fundraising Goal.

|
|
These awards will be presented during the RPAC Awards Ceremony held during the 2016 REALTOR® Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo. For more information, please contact Kanoa Naehu. |

Lapsed Major Investor Policy Sunset
One of the changes adopted by the RPAC Fundraising Trustees last November was to sunset the Lapsed Major Investor Policy at the end of 2015. This means that Major Investors who take a year off can no longer come back at the sustaining rate beginning in 2016. For example, a Golden R sustains at $2,000 per year but decides not to invest in RPAC in 2015. In 2016, they can come back as a Golden R but will need to re-enroll at the $5,000 rate—not the sustaining $2,000 rate. Please contact Kelly O’Donnell with any questions regarding the policy. |
