Hot Topic Alert: Lead Pipes and the REALTOR®
Health hazards associated with lead have been known for centuries. However, lead was the standard material used to build urban water systems for many years. In 1986, the use of lead in water pipes was banned. The Flint, MI, water crisis put a national spotlight on lead in pipes. It is estimated that there are 6.1 million lead-containing water service lines in use providing water to 15 to 22 million people. State laws generally require buyer disclosure if the seller knows something is unsafe with the water supply. There are no federal laws on disclosure requirements for lead pipes, contrary to the EPA disclosures of lead paint. For more information, contact Adriann Murawski at 202-383-1068. |

Rent Control White Paper
The State & Local Issues Policy Committee will discuss rent control laws during the 2016 REALTORS® Conference & Expo in Orlando, Florida. New proposals for rent control are surfacing in a few cities in California, and rent control could be proposed in other areas with skyrocketing housing prices. Although rent control is prohibited in at least 27 states, rising housing costs are of great concern throughout the U.S. This white paper provides an in-depth analysis of rent controls and the impact of such laws. For more information, contact Adriann Murawski at 202-383-1068. |

Hello everyone in GAD Nation! As I write this, we’re just a little over a week from the 2016 REALTORS® Conference & Expo in Orlando. I look forward to seeing you there. As one of the presidential candidates says, “It’ll be fabulous … believe me.”
If you are attending the conference, please do not forget our GAD Reception on Friday November 4 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at “The Pub” in Orlando! It will be a great time for us to get caught up on things, enjoy each other’s company and have a few adult beverages.
On Saturday November 5, our GAD Meeting is 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the Hyatt Regency Ballroom T, followed by the Local GAD (same room) & the State GAD (Silver Spring Room - Hyatt Regency) Breakout Sessions from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
One thing I especially looking forward to is our Professional Development Session, “Navigating the Election Aftermath,” which will be led by Rick Asnani, President of Cornerstone Solutions, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM.
Our GAD Advisory Group is already working on planning next year’s GAD Institute in West Palm Beach, FL, July 11-14, 2017. If you have follow-up ideas or suggestions for next year’s Institute or other questions or concerns, please contact me, GAD Chair Mark Quarry, GAD Vice Chair Cady Thomas or Kyle Lambert-London. See you soon!
