nav_red_arrow.gif GAD Policies and Procedures Amendment at GAD Institute
As mentioned during the GAD Meeting at the 2016 REALTORS® Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo in May, GADs will be voting at the GAD Institute to amend the General Policies and Procedures document. While the growth of the GAD Institute has been positive, it has made it more challenging to fulfill hotel and conference room footprint needs, while still keeping costs low. In addition to updates and semantics changes, it is proposed that the Policies and Procedures be amended to empower the GAD Advisory Group the authority to narrow the GAD Institute site selection and choose the final location.  This selection will continue to be based on the criteria outlined in the current version of the Policies and Procedures.  (Sites will still rotate between West, Central and Eastern Regions, and associations may still submit interest in hosting.  This process will continue to operate on a two-year-in-advance cycle).  However, it will allow the GAD Advisory Group to choose a host location that best fits the needs for the Institute footprint while also making it affordable for the majority of GADs to attend.  After reviewing the proposed amendments, please feel free to contact Jenny Reese, GAD Chair; Mark Quarry, GAD Vice Chair; or Kyle Lambert London with questions or concerns.

Message from the GAD Chair

Jenny Reese
GAD Chair
Nevada Association of REALTORS®

I am looking forward to seeing all of you in Nashville next week. I can’t believe it’s been a year since we started planning the conference. The GAD Advisory Group has put so much time and effort into putting together an agenda that will help further your success as government affairs professionals. This year will be the highest participation at a GAD Institute to date.

As we discussed during our meeting in DC, we will be proposing changes to the GADs Policy and Procedures document. As the GAD Institute continues to grow in participants and educational content, it has been more difficult to find meeting spaces that can accommodate us. We need a lot of conference space for a relatively small hotel room footprint. That being the case, hotels look to their food and beverage minimum to make their profits and we have seen larger increases in this area. It is becoming more and more challenging to find reasonably priced hotels that meet our conference space needs and expectations, but need only to sell half of their hotel rooms. The GAD AG is proposing to allow the members of the Advisory Group to pick the location outlined in the Policies and Procedures document. These changes will be proposed on Thursday at the GAD Institute and voted on Saturday. If anyone has any comments or concerns, please email me at jenny@carraranv.com.

As my year as GAD Chair comes to an end, it has been great to get to know many of you. I encourage you to get involved and participate in the GAD Community. See you next week!
