Homeownership Advocacy Capitol Hill Effort during REALTORS® Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo
This year, NAR’s Federal Political Coordinators (FPCs), our elite grassroots volunteer network, will be delivering a USB flash drive to their members of Congress containing thousands of signatures from homeowners in each congressional district who have signed NAR’s Homeowner Advocacy Petition asking Congress to protect the Mortgage Interest and Real Property Tax Deductions. The petition opposes any change to the federal tax code that would adversely affect tax deductions on their home and the financial stability of American families.
Over the past few years, NAR has been collecting signatures on this petition and will be delivering nearly 900,000 names in total to Congress. This is an unprecedented grassroots effort. It is a powerful message and will demonstrate to members of Congress just how much protecting homeownership matters in this country. We're excited to be a part of something so special. If you have any questions about the Homeownership Advocacy Campaign, please contact Rick Miller. |

Need to Reach Out to Consumers?
When your association needs to reach consumers on homeownership issues in your state or locality, look to NAR’s Consumer Advocacy Database for help. The database has the email addresses of more than 7.5 million consumers in every state and the District of Columbia, which can be further targeted to locality and by zip code. The database offers you an excellent opportunity to establish relationships with consumers (think Core Standards) and engage them in issues of importance to homeowners. To learn more about how the emails were acquired; how your association can use them; to review the agreement for use of the data; and much more, click here or contact Rick Miller at 202-383-1107. |

Jenny Reese
GAD Chair
Nevada Association of REALTORS®
|
Next week, we will be traveling to Washington, DC, for the 2016 REALTORS® Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo. I am looking forward to our meetings with the Nevada delegation, as I am sure you are with your respective delegation. As Government Affairs Directors, we have the opportunity to help our members drive the policy conversation with our senators and representatives to advocate for a healthy real estate market. I encourage you to study the NAR talking points that have been emailed to you. You can find them at realtor.org/hillvisitmaterials.
As a reminder, the GAD meetings will take place at the Washington Hilton on Friday, May 13. The GAD Reception, sponsored by TargetSmart, will be held on Thursday evening at Lost Society from 6:30 – 8:30 PM, and I hope to see you all there. NAR also is providing us with another Professional Development Session, “How to Remedy Advocacy Apathy,” which will follow the State and Local Breakouts. Brad Fitch, CEO of the Congressional Management Foundation, will lead a panel discussion of colleagues representing other industries, and will provide tools and strategies to help with grassroots advocacy.
The GAD AG is in the process of putting the final touches on the agenda. We will meet in D.C. to solidify the topics and speakers. Registration for the GAD Institute opens next week. Register early to avoid an increase in the fee.
I look forward to seeing you in Washington, D.C. Safe travels.
