Condo Approval Checklist
NAR has prepared a condo approval checklist for REALTORS® to use when working with condo boards who are seeking FHA approval. This document includes the list of required documents, and an outline of approval requirements. If you have any questions, please contact Megan Booth at 202-383-1222.
New White Paper on Rural Broadband
The internet has become such a normal part of day-to-day life that many Americans fail to realize that millions of their fellow citizens, primarily those in rural areas, lack access to reliable and affordable internet connections. NAR’s new white paper explores the crucial nature of this issue as it relates to the real estate industry. It also provides a brief history of deploying broadband in the United States; an overview of the current federal framework for encouraging broadband deployment; and summaries of a number of state regulatory strategies that stand out from the crowd, both positively and negatively. For more information, contact Holly Moskerintz at 202-383-1157. |

MESSAGE FROM THE GAD CHAIR |
Julia Parenteau
GAD Chair
Texas REALTORS®
It was wonderful to see so many of you in San Francisco during the REALTORS® Conference & Expo! As always, it was a busy week of meetings and member engagement. On behalf of all of us, I’d like to offer my gratitude to some special people:
• |
Thank you to all the GADs who served on NAR committees in 2019 and were able to update the GAD Community on the work of those committees. If you have questions about matters coming before any of the 2020 committees, reach out to the appointed GAD(s) (or the NAR staff liaison). |
• |
Thank you to the San Francisco Association of REALTORS®, especially Jay Cheng and Mary Jung, as well as AirbnB, for hosting the GAD Reception at Harborview Restaurant. |
• |
And finally, THANK YOU to Kyle Lambert-London for all her service to GAD nation, and best wishes as she moves on to work on programming for the AEs! Once part of GAD family, always part of GAD family – so don’t think you’ve completely shaken us! |
While most of us have our sights set on 2020, some of our colleagues are a mere three weeks past Election Day. Pundits are naturally picking apart results from November 5 in order to make predictions for next year’s races – and if anything is clear, it’s that 2020 turnout is likely to set records. Kentucky’s 2019 gubernatorial race drew more voters than any previous election in the state’s history, while Louisiana’s gubernatorial runoff had the highest turnout since 1995. School board races in Iowa showed 156 percent increase in votes cast.
As a result, in addition to the practical matter of REALTOR® engagement in state and local elections via RPAC contributions, candidate forums, and voter education, some states may see an increasing interest in proposed legislation focused on elections integrity and security. Has your association taken a position on an elections-related legislation? Let us know!
But before we get to 2020, we have a few more things to take care of in 2019. If you will be attending the REALTOR® Party Training Conference (RPTC) here in Austin (Dec. 3 – 5), be sure to drop me a line so I can point you in all the right barbecue and queso directions! And also for professional development, of course. RPTC is the annual kickoff and orientation for NAR’s key REALTOR® Party committees – if you or your members have questions about the conference, contact Patricia Tarhon.
I hope you each get to enjoy the holiday season, whether it’s with family, friends, or much-needed solo time. If you need some company, shoot me or another fellow GAD a text at (763) 232-9055! We’re always here for each other. And in the spirit of the season, I’ll give thanks for representative democracies, Big Data, and all of you! |
