REALTORS® Needed on Tax Reform, Lawmakers say
We were excited to welcome the chairman of the tax-writing House Ways & Means Committee, who joined the REALTORS® at NAR’s 2017 Federal Policy Conference & Federal Political Coordinator (FPC) Training in Washington yesterday. He, other lawmakers and congressional staffers urged us to stay engaged over the next year while lawmakers look at a full-scale reform of the country’s tax code.

The number of states that met four advocacy and four RPAC goals to win the 2016 President's Cup. The President's Cup recognizes the hard work of state REALTOR® leaders and association staff to advance the REALTOR® Party, and is presented in May at the REALTORS® Legislative Meeting & Trade Expo. This high honor will continue in 2017 as REALTOR® leaders and state associations are urged to reach four advocacy and five RPAC goals. Also new in 2017, local associations are now eligible to win the Local Association President’s Cup.

The length of NAR’s Chief Economist Lawrence Yun’s latest C-SPAN interview, Housing Policy Under the Trump Administration. Lawrence Yun talked about the Trump administration’s approach to housing policy, the current state of the housing market, Dr. Ben Carson’s nomination to be Housing and Urban Development secretary, and the suspension of planned mortgage premium cuts. He also responded to telephone calls and electronic communications, with the telephone lines divided among homeowners, renters, and others.

Half of Arizona REALTORS® receive calls for action via company-branded messages directly from their brokerages, a channel that has been shown to increase response rates.  Thanks to a Broker Involvement Grant, the Arizona association is reaching more members than ever, by engaging their brokers in grassroots advocacy.

Oklahoma City REALTORS® Improve Public Schools & Prevent Urban Flight
Public schools in Oklahoma were struggling, and the resulting urban flight was already having a detrimental impact on local communities. Using an Issues Mobilization Grant, the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Association of REALTORS® led a coalition that supported the passage of a $180 million bond measure to get the region’s schools back on their feet.

FPC Represents REALTOR® Interests at the Local, State & National Levels
South Dakota REALTOR® Tom Murphy is one of 535 Federal Political Coordinators (FPCs) assigned to educate a member of Congress on important issues facing the real estate industry. When his childhood friend, Senator Mike Rounds (SD), asked for help "cleaning up" a long list of legislative regulations that may be addressed by the new Congress, Murphy, with the assistance of NAR staff, answered the call.

The Voice for Real Estate: No Change in FHA Premiums Due to Suspension
FHA mortgage insurance premiums will remain unchanged now that the Trump administration has suspended an Obama administration reduction that was set to take effect in late January. For most borrowers taking out a 30-year mortgage with 3.5 percent down, the premium will remain 0.8 percent. It was slated to drop to .55 percent before the suspension. NAR supports putting the lower premiums back on the books. Details in the latest Voice for Real Estate news video from NAR.
