Since Hurricanes Harvey and Irma made landfall, we have watched thousands of communities ravaged by wind, rain and rising floodwaters. It’s heartbreaking, for sure.  While we may feel helpless to stop acts of nature, we are not powerless to protect and assist homeowners across the country. The number of REALTORS® who took action to urge Congress to reauthorize the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Congress passed and the President signed legislation last week to keep the NFIP operational until December 8, 2017. NAR will continue advocacy efforts for the 21st Century Flood Reform Act until this long-term reauthorization and reform bill is enacted.  Check out how your state did on this Call for Action, which ended last week.

Ohio REALTORS® Achieve Double Legislative Victory on the Tax Front
Because an Ohio law required businesses and individuals to file taxes in every jurisdiction where they'd earned income, most Ohio REALTORS® faced a costly and time-consuming administrative burden at tax time.  But all that is about to change thanks to an Issues Mobilization Grant, which  helped secure a streamlined income tax filing system, and defeat a threatened tax on professional services.

Scottsdale REALTORS® Fight Restrictive Sign OrdinanceProposal, Gain Respect and Goodwill
When the city of Scottsdale proposed a one-size-fits-all ordinance that lumped signs for real estate listings together with those advertising yard sales, the Scottsdale Area Association of REALTORS® reacted with a Call for Action that generated nearly 500 letters to City Council members.  That got the city's attention; a REALTOR® Party Land Use Initiative review by Robinson & Cole helped it see reason.
