Historic Election, Strong Night for REALTORS®
The 2020 Election was definitely one for the books. There was record-breaking early voter turnout nationally as well as for REALTORS®. On the federal level, we used considerable resources to run 83 opportunity races and 12 independent expenditures directed to the general public. On the state and local level, we ran 459 candidate campaigns, 284 of which were decided on election night. We also supported 16 ballot initiatives. Overall, we had a great election night!

The committee reviewed these issues — independent contractor status, anti-money-laundering efforts, real estate fraud, COVID-19 relief efforts, and fair housing — during their meeting at the virtual 2020 REALTORS® Conference & Expo.

Date NAR will be launching fairhaven.realtor — an innovative online simulation training, where agents work against the clock to sell homes in the fictional town of Fairhaven, while confronting discrimination in the homebuying process. Furthering NAR’s commitment to fair housing, learners will also walk in the shoes of a homebuyer facing discrimination. The training provides customized feedback that learners can apply to daily business interactions.

Bay East Association Mobilizes Members to Oppose Transfer Tax Increase
In San Leandro, California, the REALTORS® were launching a campaign against a transfer tax increase on the November ballot.  But they’d learned from experience that they couldn’t just throw money at the problem: they needed to launch a local grassroots effort.  Despite pandemic restrictions, they’re seeing boots on the ground, from social media posts to Halloween decorations incorporating their campaign mailers.

Greater Richmond REALTORS® Launch Housing Resource Line, Connecting Residents with Necessary Services
A new phone-based referral network for the Richmond region connects residents with services ranging from foreclosure prevention and elderly tax relief to stable rental housing and first-time mortgage providers. A Housing Opportunity Grant is supporting the program – and leveraging further funding from local foundations and jurisdictions.
