The iOi Pitch Battle competition offers a rare opportunity for real estate technology startups to showcase their innovations live on stage and to a global audience via livestream. The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation late last month expanding the availability of remote online notarization, a key advocacy priority for NAR dating back to before the pandemic. Even as COVID-19 becomes less of a factor, virtual closings remain in demand. NAR research found that 12% of sales in June took place virtually.

Despite some in the media who have claimed otherwise, existing homes that are available and priced appropriately are still moving at a remarkably fast pace. The average house in the U.S. is selling in just 14 days. To put that into historical perspective, homes took an average of 96 days to sell back in 2011.

Ohio REALTORS® Leverage Issues Mobilization Grant to Preempt Threat of Rent Control
The Buckeye State’s REALTOR® association sprang into action as rent control measures were being considered in the state’s capital. The group leveraged an Issues Mobilization Grant to draft legislation to protect Ohio consumers from the harmful, unintended consequences of such policies. The association had less than a month to draft, present, and pass the bill, but statewide rent control preemption was successfully adopted in Ohio this spring.

Five Years Later, Study Commissioned by Coastal Carolinas Association Still Paying Dividends
In the tourist destination of Myrtle Beach, SC, pedestrian safety is a natural priority. The city began addressing this issue in 2016 with help from the Coastal Carolinas Association of REALTORS® and a REALTOR® Party grant. Myrtle Beach’s first in-depth walkability study detailed a range of adjustments that would improve the community’s long-term vitality. City administration and local REALTORS® continue working together to make this vision a reality.

Conejo Simi Moorpark Association Pushes for Added Local Wildfire Safety Measures
Thousand Oaks, CA, experienced devastating wildfires twice in the past four years. Recognizing the need to mitigate the risk of future loss, the local REALTOR® Association used timely polling and a REALTOR® Party Consumer Advocacy Grant to convince officials that maintenance of the rugged open space surrounding the city should be a priority. The City Council responded by including wildfire mitigation in its formal list of top priorities for fiscal year 2022-23.
